Passengers traveling with Air New Zealand
are welcome to bring:
Carry-On Allowance: 1 Cabin Bag + 1 Small Personal Item
Each traveler may bring one standard cabin bag and one smaller personal item
(e.g., a handbag or laptop case). Mobility aids and outerwear are not considered
personal items. All carry-on items must fit either in the overhead compartment
or beneath the seat in front and comply with the following limits:
• Maximum Carry-On Size: 46.5 linear inches / 118 cm (length + width + height)
• Maximum Carry-On Weight: 15 lb / 7 kg
Note: On all routes except those to/from the United States, Star Alliance Gold
members (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) are entitled to two carry-on
bags provided each meets the criteria above.
⚠️ Reminder: Seats at the bulkhead do not have under-seat storage during takeoff
or landing.
Checked Baggage Allowance
Domestic Travel within New Zealand:
Passengers must observe the following checked baggage limits:
• Smart Saver Fare: One checked bag up to 50 lb / 23 kg
• Flexi Plus Fare*: Two checked bags, each up to 50 lb / 23 kg
Star Alliance Gold members (including Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite) may bring
up to three checked bags, each not exceeding 50 lb / 23 kg.

Flights to Australia, Pacific Islands, and Bali:
Baggage allowances by class of service:
• Economy Class: One checked bag, up to 50 lb / 23 kg
• Premium Economy: Two checked bags, each up to 50 lb / 23 kg
• Business Class: Three checked bags, each up to 50 lb / 23 kg
Star Alliance Gold and Airpoints Gold/Gold Elite travelers may check two bags in
Economy and up to three in Premium Economy and Business Class, with the same
weight limit per item.
International Flights (including U.S. routes):
For passengers flying internationally, baggage limits are as follows:
• Economy Class: One checked bag, max 50 lb / 23 kg
• Premium Economy: Two bags, each up to 50 lb / 23 kg
• Business Class: Three bags, each up to 50 lb / 23 kg
Star Alliance Gold (Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite included) customers may check
two bags in Economy and up to three bags in Premium Economy or Business, with
the standard weight allowance applying.
✈️ If your itinerary includes flights with other airlines to or from the U.S.,
baggage rules of the first airline on your ticket apply throughout the journey.
🔹 Note: Air New Zealand’s Pacific Premium Economy baggage benefits may not be
honored by other carriers. If bags are checked through another airline, the
Economy baggage limit may apply. Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Gold, and Gold
Elite members receive priority tags, while Koru and Premium Economy customers
from New Zealand must ensure their bags carry a Koru Priority tag.
Additional Baggage, Overweight, and Oversized Fees
Extra charges apply if your luggage exceeds the permitted quantity, weight, or
dimensions. For international inquiries, please contact Air New Zealand
directly. For domestic travel, refer to the Excess Baggage section on their
website.
Sporting Gear
Certain items like bikes and surfboards may incur a handling charge due to their
