Delta Air Lines » Children Flying Alone Policy
Delta Air Lines offers a comprehensive Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) program to
ensure the safety and comfort of children traveling alone from Australia, such
as from Sydney Kingsford
Smith International Airport (SYD).
Eligibility and Age Requirements
Children aged 5 - 7 years: May travel unaccompanied only on nonstop flights.
Children aged 8 - 14 years: May travel unaccompanied on nonstop and certain
connecting flights.
Children aged 15 - 17 years: May travel as standard passengers without enrolling
in the UMNR program. However, enrollment is optional for added supervision.
Children under 5 years old are not permitted to travel alone and must be
accompanied by a passenger aged 18 or older.
Service Fee
A fee of $150 USD each way applies for the UMNR service, covering up to four
children traveling together. This fee is in addition to the ticket fare.
Program Features
• Dedicated Delta personnel escort the child through check-in, security,
boarding, and arrival procedures.
• Trackable wristbands are provided to monitor the child's journey.
• Access to Delta Sky Zones at select airports, offering supervised areas with
activities during layovers.
• Continuous in-flight monitoring and assistance from flight attendants.
Booking and Documentation
To book UMNR travel, contact Delta Reservations at +1 800 325 8847. A 4-digit
PIN will be required for any itinerary changes.
At check-in, a parent or guardian must provide:
• Valid photo ID
Contact information
Details of the authorized individual meeting the child at the destination
A Child Travel Consent Form may also be required, especially for international
travel.
Additional Considerations
Flights for unaccompanied minors are typically scheduled during daytime hours to
minimize the risk of overnight delays.
In the event of delays or cancellations, Delta staff will provide supervision
and coordinate with guardians to ensure the child's safety.
