Delta Air Lines provides various options for canceling flights and obtaining
refunds, depending on the ticket type and circumstances:
24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation
All tickets, including Basic Economy, can be canceled within 24 hours of booking
for a full refund, provided the booking was made at least 7 days before
departure.
Refundable Tickets
Passengers holding refundable tickets can cancel their flights at any time
before departure and receive a full refund to the original form of payment.
Delta
Non-Refundable Tickets
For non-refundable tickets, cancellation is possible, but a cancellation fee
will be deducted, and the remaining value will be issued as an eCredit for
future travel. It's important to cancel before the flight's departure;
otherwise, the ticket's value is forfeited.
Flight Cancellations and Significant Delays
If Delta cancels a flight or there's a significant schedule change (e.g., a
delay of 3 hours or more for domestic flights, or 6 hours or more for
international flights), passengers are entitled to a full refund if they choose
not to travel. Delta will attempt to rebook affected passengers; however, if the
rebooking is unsatisfactory, a refund can be requested.
Refund Processing Times
Refunds to credit cards are typically processed within 7 business days, while
refunds for other payment methods may take up to 20 business days.
How to Request a Refund
Refund requests can be submitted through Delta's official website or the Fly
Delta app. Passengers can also check the status of their refund online.
Passengers are encouraged to check the specific fare rules on their ticket or
contact Delta Air Lines for clarification.
