Emirates offers a dedicated Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service to ensure the
safety and comfort of children traveling alone from Australian airports.
The service is available for children aged 5 to 15 years old on flights
departing from Australia to most destinations.
Children aged 5 to 11 must use the UM service; for those aged 12 to 15, it is
optional but recommended for a safer journey. Children under 5 are not accepted
to travel alone on Emirates flights.
When booking, parents or guardians must notify Emirates in advance to arrange
the UM service. At the airport, an Emirates staff member escorts the child from
check-in, through security, to the boarding gate, and onto the aircraft. During
the flight, cabin crew provide special attention to the child’s needs.
Upon arrival, a designated adult specified by the guardian must meet and collect
the child. Emirates requires valid contact details for both the escorting adult
and the receiving adult.
Extra fees apply for the UM service, which can vary depending on the route. The
service offers peace of mind by providing continuous care and supervision
throughout the journey, making it a trusted option for parents sending children
on flights from Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne.
