United Airlines offers an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service for children
traveling alone from Australian airports. This service ensures the safety and
comfort of young travelers throughout their journey.
Eligibility and Booking
Mandatory Service: Children aged 5 to 14 traveling without a parent or guardian
must use the UM service.
Optional Service: For those aged 15 to 17, the service is optional.
Flight Restrictions: UMs are only permitted on nonstop United or United Express
flights.
Booking Process: Reservations must be made through United's official channels,
specifying the UM service during booking.
Fees
The UM service fee is USD $150 each way for 1-2 children.
For 3-4 children, the fee is USD $300 each way.
For 5-6 children, the fee is USD $450 each way.
Upon Arriving
Check-In and Documentation:
Parents or guardians must complete the UM form, providing contact details of the
individuals dropping off and picking up the child.
At check-in, the child receives a wristband and a document envelope to carry
essential travel documents.
It's recommended to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before departure.
In-Flight and Arrival Procedures
Flight attendants will monitor the child during the flight, and the child will
receive one complimentary snack.
Upon arrival, the child will wait on the plane until a United representative
escorts them to the designated pickup person.
For international flights, the child must clear customs before meeting the
guardian in the arrivals area.
Additional Considerations
Ensure the child carries a valid passport and any necessary visas for
international travel.
Pack snacks and entertainment items, such as books or electronic devices, to
keep the child engaged during the flight.
Discuss the travel process with the child beforehand to prepare them for the
journey.
