Japan Airlines requires that children aged 5 to 11 years traveling alone must
use the Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service.
For children aged 12 to 17, the service is optional but available upon
request. Children under 5 years old are not permitted to travel alone and must
be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older.
Reservations for unaccompanied minors must be made through JAL's International
Reservations and Information Center. The service fee is USD 150 (plus tax) per
direction.
At the time of booking, you will need to provide contact details for a parent or
guardian at departure, arrival, and any connecting airports. A consent form must
be completed and submitted in advance.
JAL does not permit unaccompanied minors on itineraries that involve:
• Transfers to or from another airline, including codeshare or oneworld partners
• Ground transportation between airports (applies to travelers under 15 years)
• Travel on the last scheduled flight of the day from the final connection city,
unless it is the only available flight
• Overnight layovers, unless no alternative connections exist
If your child will be flying alone, be sure to follow all safety and preparation
steps to ensure a secure journey.
